I came across the phrase quietly quitting wile I was working with Vivianne & Jannah on our Rest & Reset Workshops, starting September 7th.
The idea’s not new but it has been renamed to attract a new audience. So, what exactly is quietly quitting & how can you use it to create space in your life? Quietly quitting is gradually pairing back the time you put into tasks/work that has become overbearing or simply begun to take over your life. The idea is to:
The idea of quiet quitting can be used for work & personal life. It is for any situation, that’s drawing more of your energy than you’re seeing a benefit for. This can be:
So if any of the above relates to you, remember you do not need to stop & down tools, this will create the reaction you do not want & won’t benefit you. Try quietly quitting & scaling back the time & effort you are putting in. You’ll be surprised, your work will rarely diminish but you will have more time for things that bring you joy! It’s been 2 years since my initial stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis & what a rollercoaster it has been.
For anyone who is just been diagnosed and their family my hope is that my journey brings you hope. We don’t talk enough about this from the patients perspective. It’s a scary topic we avoid, which I totally understand, but it means when you get that diagnosis your brain goes straight to its fear mode. So, my first year was definitely all fight or flight mode. It was all about survival, getting my head around it and grieving. Don’t get me wrong, when I say grieving I didn’t have myself buried, I was grieving the life I was loosing. Life became a series of decisions around what was worth the expenditure of my energy, my body had a vastly reduced resource of energy. My second year has been different. This year I realised I’ve got the surviving part down, between the medical treatments and my own herbs, juices and natural remedies, rest, counselling, reflexology & massages I am doing good. Now it time to thrive. There are still times my body gets exhausted and I am learning (always learning) to slow and listen to it. This year I have had more strength to advocate for my needs to go through this journey in a way that resonates with me. My medical treatments are: • Ribociclib • Letrozole • Zometa • Zoladex My natural remedies include: • My own herbal tincture (specific to my needs now) • Medicinal mushrooms, turmeric, slippery elm and marshmallow • Vitamin D3,E, C & multi • CBD • Aloe vera • Probiotic • Healthy diet - lots of fresh veggies • Plenty water • Juicing For me this journey is all about mindset and keeping a healthy body & mind. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes, they mean more than I can ever say💓 You can follow carina at: www.itsanaturalchoice.com www.breaking-fads.com Follow her journey on Facebook & Instagram: It’s A Natural Choice We love breaking fads Join Facebook group – The Natural Health Tribe @itsanaturalchoice @welovebreakingfads Do you stop 🛑 or slow down?
Take rest periods, real rest with no other distractions? No TV, computers, phones, iPads or any other screens. Just you. We live in a world where we are constantly stimulated, which means the nervous system never gets to power down. To recover and be able to carry on it's job properly. Think of any piece of electronic equipment you own. When you leave it on or use it for too long at one time it starts to overheat. So what do you do? You turn it off, give it a chance or switch off and reboot, because we all know if you push it further once it’s shown signs of overheating it will break, burnout, go kaput. So why do we ignore the signs our body gives us when we are overwhelmed, overworked or about to burnout? I think it’s because we don’t even recognise them. So what are they?
If you are displaying 3 or more of the above symptoms you need a break, time to stop, rest and reset. You can also start by regularly introducing short rest periods to your day. So, remember take 10 minutes a day to stop, rest, reset or meditate and if you don’t have 10 minutes a day to do that, well, you need an hour! That changed when I had to start taking chemo and hormone supressing therapy for my cancer. Now may hair was thinning, wiry and just wouldn’t grow.
For the first year of a cancer diagnosis you are in survival mode, you are just trying to deal with the shock, the fear and trying to stay alive. The second year is when I decided to start thriving again. My hair wasn’t a major issue for my survival but now I am not just focussed on staying alive I’m focussed on living and my hair is one of the areas I started to focus on again. Now, I can’t take the usual herbal tinctures I would have given clients to help with hair growth. This is because their function is to improve blood flow to the peripheries, including the scalp, to bring nutrients to the follicles, hence strengthening the hair and improving growth. I wouldn’t use these herbs because the chemo is partly trying to stop blood flow to the tumours to kill their food supply. So, I looked to what other natural remedies I knew would help my hair grow back strong. These are my 2 favourite and both come from Ayurvedic medicine. Both are used as an oil to rub into the scalp to help feed the follicles at the root:
Here is how to use it: Step 1 – wash your hair Step 2 – apply the oil to towel dried hair Step 3 – wrap your hair in a towel/towel turban and allow to absorb for the minimum of ½ hour. For best results do this at night, sleep with the oil on and the towel turban, and then rinse of in the morning with some shampoo. Start with 2-3x week until you have the required results then reduce to 1x week. (if you are going through treatments that are affecting your hair then I would continue the 3x weeks, you are constantly working against the side effect of the treatment so need a more consistent method of treatment). Let me know if you try this and what your results are!
