It’s going on 31/2 years since I was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and I’m happy to say I’m doing well. I have learnt so much in that time, how to help myself to navigate some of the uncomfortable side effects of living with Cancer.
Today I would like to share some of the remedies I have used on my journey Bone pain after bone treatments A side effect of the cancer treatments for breast cancer can be reduced bone density and most patients, like myself, will need a bone treatment every 3-6 months to strengthen the bones. This treatment itself can leave you feeling a lot of bone pain and exhaustion. I have since found out this is partly due to the release of specific bone histamines. A very simple solution is to take the medication Clarityn. Take as prescribed for 1 week leading up to the treatment, I have found this drastically reduces the recovery time. Nausea and digestive discomfort As you can imagine, the cancer meds can seriously upset your digestive tract. A simple solution I’ve found is taking slippery elm and marshmallow to soothe the digestion and rebalance the gut bacteria, whilst protecting the digestion. Hot flushes The treatments force you into the menopause at a million miles an hour. Everything is experienced at a more intense level than a normal menopause. A few things I do are: - Hydrate – drink a minimum of 2L water per day - Cooling herbs – peppermint/spearmint/chamomile/yarrow tea are my favourites - Reduce alcohol, caffein and sugar consumption (this should be a must in any cancer) - Increase leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables These are just a few of the natural remedies I have found have helped me and I hope they might help you too to navigate your disease and treatment.
