"No-one is Immune" but don't live in fear!

“No-one is immune” was a term used as the lockdown eased.  This is true, we do not know if anyone is immune, even though those who have had the virus.
 
But let’s change the focus from fear, the many possibilities that everything could go wrong, the feeling of helplessness.  Let’s switch that on it’s head for a while.  What would happen if we focused on what we can do, what we have control or power over?
 
So, what can we do? 
 
Strengthen our natural immune system.  We have a natural immune defense.  This virus can affect any of us, but it seems to affect those with already compromised immunity worse.  So, we can reduce the risk by strengthening our own innate immunity.  Some of the following you can do with what you have at home and others you will need to see a practitioner like myself to guide you.
 
Diet –Increase natural produce, go organic (often higher in nutrients).  Eat a rainbow of colour.  Reduce inflammatory foods, processed foods, processed sugar

Probiotics – most of our immunity comes from the gut, by improving gut bacteria you can positively impact immunity

Spices and kitchen herbs – turmeric, cayenne, ginger, rosemary, thyme, mint, basil.  All have beneficial properties with respect to heart and lung issues.

Herbs – If you have not had the virus and are looking to strengthen immunity there are a number of herbs that can help our immune strength.   Herbs like echinacea (2 weeks only), elderflower, medicinal mushrooms like cordyceps, reishi, shitake and  Holy Basil.    There are a number of herbs that you cannot purchase, but have to be prescribed by a herbalist, like myself.  Here I would recommend a consultation.   
 
Cleanliness - now I'm not saying you're a bunch of mucky pups, but, keep the hand sanitizing up.  I wouldn't wear gloves, as an ex nurse, gloves were not worn contiunously, they were changed constantly to prevent infection transference.  Cleaning your hands is more effective and means you will be more vigilant, gloves give us a false sense of security.

Masks - I have been for wearing a mask from the beginning.  I have never understood why we were advised to self isolate but masks were not recommended.  I was a respiratory link nurse on a Medical Assessment unit and this lack of simple advice cause me no end of confusion.  We could have made our own masks and it would have had some effect. Companies that were involved in clothing, seamstresses, costume makers etc could have been contracted to make masks.   - I would like to say i wouldn't wear one all the time, this can cause problems, but I would wear one when going into enclosed spaces with a number of other people. Masks have a number of uses 
- stop some of the infection transfer
- this is a respiratory virus - by covering your nose and mouth you are preventing a certain amount of cross infection
- stops you touching your facial orifices, again transferring infection to your face if you have come into contact.

There are several stages of this virus and we need a different approach for each:
     Those who are not sick and want to strengthen their immunity
   Those who have the virus in a milder form and are convalescing at home
        Those who are in hospital (they will not be necessarily using holistic medicines at that point, but can use it in the next stage when they are recovering at home after
           Those who have had the virus and are now recovering and repairing the damage the virus has done to the body.  This is an area that natural medicines can help as a big part of what we do is nourish and repair the body after illness, not just during.
