How to get back up on the healthy eating bandwagon

​We have all done it, been  so good with our diets, eaten really healthy and felt so good about it and then bam!  You fall off the bandwagon and go on a mad binge of everything you think you were missing.  For most it can take a while to get back to a balanced way of eating.
 
I use the word balance, because that’s exactly what we need and what will help you get back up on this particular horse.
 
Healthy eating is not about restrictions, it’s about focusing on what you need to be healthy.
 
So how do you get back on the bandwagon when you’ve fallen off it hard?
 
  1. Do not beat yourself up – this will lead to more bad food habits
  2. Remind yourself what your goal is and that you are totally capable of reaching it
  3. Remind yourself it’s not all or nothing
  4. The next morning have a good breakfast, plenty or protein and fibre
  5. Continue with a healthy lunch and dinner.  Something that feels like a pleasure to eat not a punishment
  6. No starving yourself – this will lead to cravings and further binging
  7. Nourish your body and mind with good healthy food and being kind to yourself
  8. Drink plenty of water
  9. Sleep – a good night’s sleep can change anyone’s perspective
  10. Exercise – not excessively or like it’s a punishment
  11. Get out in nature
  12. Talk – call to a friend or book a session to talk through why you sabotaged
  13. Journal – if you don’t feel you can talk, then write.  The main thing is to try to identify the reason for your binge.
  14. Be flexible – your diet should reflect your bodies needs.  Remember that foods first role is to feed the body to function, it’s second role is to fill the role of what you fancy.  I follow a n 80/20 rule.  80% of what I eat is what will fulfill my bodies physical needs and 20 % is purely what I fancy.  I do make my food tasty as well as healthy.
